Why Bermuda?
Bermuda is widely recognised as the premier offshore financial centre. It has enjoyed a long history of political, economic and social stability.
Its international business sector has benefitted from robust regulation, insulating it from the types of scandals that have plagued other offshore jurisdictions. Bermuda is a self-governing and politically stable British Overseas Territory with one of the oldest Parliamentary Democracies in the world.
Bermuda has a high reputation as a "blue-chip" financial and business centre with first class professional support. Major stock exchanges around the world regularly list Bermuda companies. Investors, lenders, rating agencies and other international financial service providers work alongside Bermuda companies around the world. Furthermore, over 75% of Fortune 100 companies maintain a presence in Bermuda.
The Bermuda dollar is at parity with the US dollar. Bermuda enjoys one of the 5 highest GDP per capita incomes in the world (around 50% higher than that of the US). In 2012 it boasted a GDP of 5.47billion USD giving a GDP per capita of 84,470 USD. Its economy is primarily based on providing financial services for international business in particular offshore insurance and reinsurance, and luxury facilities for tourists.
Bermuda's tax benefits make it a very attractive jurisdiction. There is no income or profits tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax, capital transfer tax, VAT or sales tax, inheritance tax or estate duty.
Bermuda's corporate law is flexible and is based on the corporate laws of England and Wales. Bermuda has a stable and well-respected legal system, which follows the common law tradition of England. The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, which sits in London, serves as Bermuda's final court of appeal.
